Why did I start a blog? And where did the name Happy as a Homebody come from?
Why Start a Blog?
Simply put, I decided to start a blog because a part of me believes that sharing my experiences, ideas, and even dreams may inspire, educate, and bring joy to others. We all have a unique platform on social media to speak to anyone who is willing to listen. For the majority of the last decade, I have been rather quiet on social media because I didn’t think I had anything to say that was worth listening to. It recently resonated with me that I don’t need an audience of a million people or the perfect words to say to start a blog. I may not be an influencer but I still have influence. Blogging is just a hobby, a creative outlet to inspire and be inspired, and that’s the purpose of “Happy as a Homebody.”
What Inspired “Happy as a Homebody”?
The title “Happy as a Homebody” was derived from the simple notion that I am happiest when I am at home and experiencing everything that home has to offer me. So much of our identity and who we are is influenced by what’s unfolding within the walls of our home. Think about this: the things that happen in our homes are shaping and equipping us to face the outside world and all of its challenges. For this reason, it’s so important to be intentional about what is happening at home. We all should be interested in creating homes that cultivate inspiration and creativity, provide rest and peace, promote health and wellness, and are abundant in love.
Thoughtful Design
I was 25 when I built my first home in 2017. It was a monumental accomplishment for me and it brought me significant life changes! I spent a lot of time decorating and tending to the small elements of design in my home. I recognized early on my passion for the aesthetics of interior design. Have you ever walked into a space that instantly sparked an emotional response? Maybe it was a clean and bright kitchen, a charming living room, an eclectic bathroom, a cozy bedroom, or a welcoming entryway that made you feel inspired, happy, calmed (or even anxious #yikes) by the way these spaces were designed. My interest is peaked by the layout of a room; the selection of furniture, paint colors, fresh foliage, the textures of blankets and throw pillows, the pops of color, the art on the wall and the personal trinkets that style mantles or shelves. I have chosen specific design elements to create a warm and calming environment for myself and my guests.
Love Grows Best in Houses Just Like This
The way a home is designed should not be it’s only redeeming qualities. Home is so much more than interior design. My sense of gratitude towards home developed at a young age. My parents created a loving home for my sister and me. When I was growing up, our house was a welcoming and fun gathering place for my friends. From game night to girls night, birthday parties to Christmas parties, study sessions, sleepovers, cheer practices, and everything that took place in between, my parents were always willing to host my friends and me. Looking back now, I have a deep appreciation for being raised in a loving home that welcomed gathering, fellowship, and relationship building. The memories made at my parents’ house would later inspire me to emulate the same inviting atmosphere in my own home.
Happy While Healthy at Home
Home is also the place we unwind, destress, recharge, and thus keep ourselves well. We exercise, cook, and clean at home to promote health and wellness for ourselves. As a nurse practitioner, I will always engage in public health and advocate for the health and wellness of my community. However, I’m also an advocate for health and wellness inside your home, as it can be more challenging to achieve than you think! I am committed to safe dwelling conditions for myself, my pets, and my guests by choosing nontoxic and sustainable products throughout my home.
The last few years, I have been putting puzzle pieces together to create my ideal feeling of “home,” and the journey has led me to become Happy as a Homebody!
